How to Build a Wardrobe like Daniel Craig's James Bond
It’s probably fair to say that most men wouldn’t mind being a little more like James Bond. While earning a place on Her Majesty’s Secret service in real life takes considerable graft and we suspect, isn’t nearly as glamorous as Ian Fleming and Barbara Broccoli would have us believe, a far easier (and less lethal) way to be a little more is through what you put on your back. To mark the release of the official trailer of No Time to Die, and Daniel Craig’s last outing as the iconic British agent, we decided to put together a list of Craig’s sartorial highlights as to help you build an apparel arsenal with some MI6 style kudos.
The Suit
If Bond is synonymous with one item of clothing, it has to be a sharp suit. Whether he’s trying to defeat an underworld banker at the poker table in a plush dinner suit or pursuing a terrorist over rooftops in an immaculately-cut two-piece without any sort of hindrance, he very much wears his tailoring instead of the other way around. It has to be said that Craig certainly does justice to Bond’s flawless taste in tailoring.

Since Craig’s tenure in the role, brands from Tom Ford to Brioni to Brunello Cucinelli – a personal favourite of Craig’s in real life and a brand that he brought to the franchise – have all graced Craig’s well-built physique throughout his films. However, if you aren’t on a MI6 top dog’s salary, don’t fret, there are more affordable versions from brands including Hackett, Boss and H&M.

The Swimshorts
When a ripped Daniel Craig emerged from the sea in Casino Royale in a pair of skimpy La Perla shorts, it nearly broke the internet – and made us feel just a little guilty about all those gym sessions we skipped in the past year. Those particularly short shorts can’t be found for love or money any more, but in fact, British leisurewear brand Orlebar Brown is actually the favoured choice of Craig. The brand’s light-blue Setters, worn by Craig in a twilight pool scene in Skyfall, are cut at just the right length to display your hard graft from endless leg days, but not so short you feel like you’re in scrotum-skimmers.

The reason why they look ‘just so’ is the fact they are tailored from 60 separate component parts, much like Savile Row trousers. The brand actually has a Bond capsule collection, with pieces that draw inspiration from the garments worn by Bonds over the decades, including Sean Connery, George Lazenby and of course Craig himself. If you’re after a style that’s a little lighter on the wallet, there are a glut of other similar designs that have the look, but deliver more bang for your buck.

The Sunglasses
Craig’s eyewear in the films is as distinctive as his swimmers and it’s Tom Ford once again that delivers the goods. The brand’s Marko Aviators, which he wore in Skyfall, have become a Craig signature and he also sports a pair of Tom Ford Snowdon sunnies in Spectre, during the funeral scene set in Rome’s Museum of Roman Civilisation. Both styles are a classic shape that will never fall out of favour and suit pretty much anything you wear them with, whether it’s a sharply tailored two-piece or a polo shirt and chino shorts.

The Footwear
It should come as little surprise that Craig’s footwear as is worthy match for his tailoring. The favoured brand of choice is Northampton-based Crockett & Jones, which is seen throughout Skyfall and Spectre – most notably in the form of its rugged Islay brogue boots and Highbury Oxfords, which will also making an appearance in No Time to Die.
The brand, founded in , still uses age-old welting techniques like the Goodyear construction, which is known for its sturdiness and the fact it allows shoes to be repeatedly be re-soled, so they’ll last a lifetime if properly maintained. And if you’re more of an athletic inclination when it comes to your footwear, you’ll be pleased to know that Craig’s Bond isn’t always in stiff formal shoes, as shown in the training scenes in Skyfall, where he wears blue adidas Gazelles.

The Watch
The Omega Seamaster has long been the wrist candy of choice for Craig’s The Seamaster, first introduced in , draws design cues from British Navy diving watches from the late ‘40s. Omega has now just released details of the edition that Craig will be sporting in No Time to Die and it’s already got collectors’ pulses racing. If you’re keen to get your hands on one, you’d better put your name on the waitlist now.

Of course, as you’d expect, there is a premium on these models, but if your bank balance can’t quite stretch to the tune of £k, there are a host of Seamaster-like dive watches from alternative brands that don’t sacrifice on mechanics or build quality either.
